I am totally stoked. THE WIRIE is here. I ordered it in the US and just picked it up from Customs here in Munich, which was another public transportation adventure. It took me 2 hours to get there, but it should be worth it. :-).
|Unboxing The Wirie!|
The Wirie is a Wifi antenna with built-in router. The Wirie will pick up hotspots and since it has sort of a booster technology, we will be able to have Wifi signals 5 or more miles (8 + km) from land. This means, that we can access the internet through this little gadget while sailing along the coast or being at anchor somewhere. The only pre-condition: We need an open network. Usually there are plenty of open networks, so I am not concerned we won't have internet.
What I really like best is the fact that we can access the internet with two or more laptops/phones at the same time without the need to plug-in cables or whatsoever. Just like being home. One huge advantage though.... I potentially could work directly from the boat, if we have a stable and strong connection. How cool is this? Picture to the left shows The Wirie installed on a boat. Watch out for the floating Ikoko Hotspot ;-). /k.
